Captain Tyler Redstone
Times got hard and then bad. Tye's father died six months before Serenity Valley in a heroic effort to secure a heavily fortified munitions dump. His mother and two of his sisters died when Alliance troops raided the ranch. Tye was one of those who stood in Serenity Valley and watched the leadership's betrayal. Once the Alliance let him go, he returned to the smoking ruins of the ranch, saw the graves of his mother and two of his sisters. Mei, the youngest, was missing. He still doesn't know what happened to her.

History
Tyler, or Tye as he's usually called, grew up on a farm. Riding almost before he could walk. Doing chores. A bit wild when he could get away with it. Resistant to book learning, the enforced inactivity of school, but smart for all of that. Life wasn't easy but it was, for the most part, good. Matthew Redstone, his father, played fiddle on Saturday nights while his grandfather accompanied him on an old upright piano that had seen better days. And for all that Tye might itch to see what was out there, he loved his life. Then came the war and all of that changed. Both he and his father enlisted which left his mother and sisters to take care of the ranch.
